LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — A local group that’s helped homeless dogs for years is now in need of some help itself.
Almost Home Humane Society is asking for your help to renovate its dog kennels. The shelter needs about $74,000 to repaint the kennels and install new gates and walls.
Last fall, the shelter renovated its small dog and puppy room. But Executive director Stacy Rogers said it’s been far too long with the kennels they have currently.
“Our dog kennels are currently about 30 years old. Of the tens of thousands of dogs that have been in them, they’re starting to really deteriorate.”
Rogers said the renovations will also make it safer for the dogs.
“On a daily basis, our staff and volunteers are going back and trying to patch the kennels with gates from dog cages, with bungee cords and chains just to try and make them feasible, so that the dogs can’t stick their head out of the hole in the chain length or the gates aren’t able to be opened up by the dogs,” said Rogers.
Renovations are expected to be complete by next summer.
