Chef Wendell: Pregnancy and protein

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Eating for two can give a mother and developing child the opportunity for a nutritional boost, if she eats healthy foods.

In the womb, cells grow at an exponential rate.  Every cell needs high quality building blocks, for both mother and child. Try preparing some of these easy recipes:

  • Baked sweet potato with Greek yogurt and walnuts
  1. Heat oven to 400° F
  2. Pierce each sweet potato several times with a fork
  3. Place sweet potatoes on a rimmed baking sheet lined with foil
  4. Bake until tender, about 45 minutes
  5. Make a slit in the top of each sweet potato
  6. Top with Greek yogurt and walnuts
  • Fried eggs with spinach
  1. Lightly sauté washed spinach in either olive oil or butter
  2. Season with salt and pepper
  3. Place on top of cooked eggs
  • Colorful fruits and veggies
  1. Eat a garden salad every day
  2. Wash, wash and wash to remove field residue and bacteria
  • Fish Protein*

*The FDA recommends eating no more than 12 ounces per week to avoid ingesting too much mercury.
