INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said two people are in good condition after being hit by a car Monday morning.
The two victims, who have not been identified, were waiting to catch an IndyGo bus at the intersection of East 10th Street and LaSalle Street when a white Chevrolet car went charging towards them and came to a stop on the sidewalk where the two were standing.
John Ailes works at Audrey’s Place Used Furniture and Thrift Store, located directly across the street from where the crash happened.
“Me and the owner were on the side of the building. We were talking about doing some cleanup and we heard a crash,” said Ailes. “We didn’t hear no brakes or nothing. We just heard something hitting something and then we heard some screaming and hollering.”
Ailes said he quickly ran across the street to help the victims.
“The gentleman was hurt pretty bad. There was a lot of blood coming from his right leg around his ankle. And then I’d seen blood coming out of his left leg on the upper thigh. The girl was between him and the car. All she was doing was screaming that her leg was broke,” Ailes said.
Ailes said he sees the man and woman several times each week at the bus stop.
“They’re always hollering at me and waving, and ask what specials we have. We make a lot of friends here,” he said.
IMPD said the driver was arrested on suspicion of operating while intoxicated. The driver’s name has not yet been released.
Officers believe the vehicle may have hit other vehicles around East 10th Street and LaSalle Street. They are asking potential victims or anyone with information about the crash to call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS (8477).
