Man who shot self after Wal-Mart shoplifting dies

BEECH GROVE, Ind. (WISH) — A man who shot himself in the head on Thursday after police chased him following a shoplifting incident at the Beech Grove Wal-Mart has died, according to police officials.

Gillace Samples died over the weekend.

Samples was identified as one of two people who are accused of shoplifting from the Wal-Mart in Beech Grove. 

Police were called and officers realized the suspect was armed.

Police say Samples ran into the Egg Roll #1 restaurant. The owner tried to kick him out while a waitress went outside to get police. Officers went inside the restaurant and found the man had shot himself in the head while in the bathroom.

Police say the man was wanted on two warrants.

The warrants for Samples were for a parole violation and for a shooting in Indianapolis on July 29. The second warrant was for battery with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.

The second suspect, Maxey, was arrested for theft.
