Greenfield officer, homeowner hospitalized after finding meth lab

GREENFIELD, Ind. (WISH) – A Greenfield police officer was hospitalized after responding to the report of a methamphetamine lab in a home.

Officers from Greenfield responded to a home in the 100 block of West Pierson Street around 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, according to 24-Hour News 8’s partners at the Greenfield Reporter.

When officers arrived on scene they found a meth lab inside a home. Police say a 911 caller said the lab was left by a visitor.

Greenfield police Lt. Matt Holland entered the home and began complaining of a burning sensation in his chest. He was taken to Hancock Regional Hospital and later released.

The homeowner who uses an oxygen tank was also taken to the hospital.

Police say the homeowner discovered the drugs in a bedroom that a male relative was using while he was visiting.

The lab was dismantled by the Indiana State Police Meth Suppression Unit. Police are still searching for the male suspect.
