TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) — If the traffic wasn’t bad enough already on Sagamore Parkway, the Interstate 65 closure has only made it worse.
Morning and afternoon rush hour have seen more than mile long backups. More semitrailers are diverting from I-65 and taking the construction filled road.
The big rigs are not only causing a headache for drivers, but also for construction workers. Lafayette Construction manager Randy Loft says it’s a process.
“I know it’s frustrating for all the drivers coming through here, but have patience and be courteous and let people out of the businesses,” Loft explained. “And just hopefully, everyone can be courteous because all these workers want to get home safe too.”
Loft said the increase in traffic is also making it a little more difficult.
“It’s slowing down getting our material and dump trucks hauling dirt from the plant,” said Loft. “Trying to get in and out with all the extra traffic is delaying them a little bit.”
The current phase of construction on Sagamore is working from Beech Drive to the railroad crossing by Home Depot.
