Tracy Jones shares her husband’s Red, White & Basil Burger that won this year’s Red Gold Summer Grilling Contest

2 pounds Laura’s Lean Ground Beef
1 (14.5 ounce) can RED GOLD® Petite Diced Tomatoes, drained, reserve juice
1 cup cubed fresh mozzarella cheese
¾ cup plain breadcrumbs
3 roma tomatoes, sliced
8 fresh basil leaves
8 slices fresh mozzarella cheese
4 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
2 garlic cloves, minced
Salt and pepper to taste
8 buns of choice
- In a mixing bowl combine ground beef, diced tomatoes and breadcrumbs. Form into 8 patties and grill to desired doneness over medium high heat.
- Combine reserved tomato juice, vinegar, garlic, salt and black pepper in a saucepan. Cook on medium high heat to reduce the mixture until thick, about 20 minutes.
- Toast buns on the grill. Place burgers on bottom buns, top with 1 cheese slices, 3 tomatoes slices, 1 basil leaf and 1 tablespoon of the reduced tomato mixture; top with bun.
