CDC: Most contact users putting health of eyes at risk

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A new survey shows that if you wear contacts – odds are you don’t always follow the rules when it comes to keeping your lenses clean, according to the Centers for Disease Control.

The CDC says 99 percent of the people surveyed are at risk for serious eye infections because of poor contact lens hygiene. 82 percent of people admitted to keeping their contact cases longer than recommended. 50 percent said they sleep in their contacts.

Health officials say replace your contacts when you’re supposed to – don’t wear two week lenses for four weeks.

They also say to avoid water when wearing contacts, use clean solution and change out your contact case every three months.
