Father creates toy set to teach kids about diversity

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A father with a background in industrial design and code development created a building block toy set to teach children about diversity.

MyFamilyBuilders is a kit that includes 48 wooden pieces that snap together, forming 2,000 combinations of families. It also includes 25 cards with educational games to help parents educate children about the different types of families. The cards were created as conversation starters for parents and children.

It allows children to create diverse families, encouraging them to explore how families are different.

The creator Ez Karpf said the idea stemmed from his own frustration with toys. He wanted to buy toys for a friends daughter that resembled her multi-racial family.

Karpf and his five business partners have been working on the product for the past year.

He said the toys will not be sold directly to consumers. Instead, they’ll work with psychologists and education specialists to use the toys in their practices.

The set sells for $110.
