INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indianapolis police were looking for a gunman early Wednesday morning in an overnight shooting in Broad Ripple.

Police say the shooting happened around 1:30 a.m., near the intersection of Main and Ferguson streets. This isn’t far from the popular shops and bars in the area.

According to police, the victim was walking home from his shift at the Hop Cat restaurant when a man tried to rob him. Officers say the victim didn’t have any money and the suspect shot him in the leg.

Police say the victim was taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital and was listed in good condition. Officers don’t think the two knew each other, and say this was a random act.

The man police say they’re looking for is in his early 20s, about 5 feet 5 inches tall, around 120 pounds and possibly driving a gold sedan.

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 262-TIPS.
