Brad Stevens speaks at Big Brothers Big Sisters event

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Former Butler basketball coach and current Boston Celtics coach Brad Stevens was back in town Thursday night as the keynote speaker at the annual Big Brothers Big Sisters event.

Stevens addressed about 1,000 business and community leaders at the downtown Marriott.

“We’ve all been asked to be mentors growing up and getting older. As you know, when you meet somebody younger, you probably get more out of it than they do,” Stevens said. “I think that’s the mutually beneficial part of that relationship. And they’ve done such great work here and one of my high school friends has been here the entire time so when she asked me to do this it was a no-brainer.”

The event has long been one of the city’s premier fundraisers, helping to raise almost $300,000 this year.

WISH-TV sports director Anthony Calhoun was the emcee of the event.

The Main Event is a traditionally sports-themed event that has long been one of the city’s premier fundraisers, helping to raise almost $300,000 for BBBSCI this year.

“This event would not be possible each year without the generous support from corporations and individuals,” said event chairperson and BBBSCI board member Sally Grant. “It’s a wonderful way to support BBBSCI’s mission of creating mentoring opportunities while also enjoying a truly memorable evening.”
