FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A boy was last listed in critical condition in a Fort Wayne hospital after being hit by a pickup truck Sunday evening.
According to 24-Hour News 8 sister station, WANE, police were called to the 1600 block of High Street and a hospital around 5:45 p.m. The child’s family members called police as they were driving him to a hospital.
Initial reports found that a family member was starting to leave in the alley behind the house in a pickup truck and didn’t know the child was behind the truck. As the truck started to reverse, it hit the child. As soon as the driver realized what happened, the driver and other family members called police while rushing the boy to a hospital.
Investigators are collecting evidence and processing the crash scene, but after speaking with witnesses, right now, officers said it appears it was just a tragic accident.
The incident is still under investigation by police and the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
