Konrath’s probation revoked, sentenced to prison time

MIAMI COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) – A former Lafayette surgeon who at one time faced a charge of attempted murder is now sentenced for his latest charge, escaping house arrest.

Gregory Konrath was sentenced Monday to one additional year behind bars after cutting off his tracking bracelet and fleeing to Arizona in April. He pleaded guilty to those escape charges in July.

In addition, the judge revoked the remaining nine years of probation from Konrath’s previous sentence of two counts of stalking and he now faces a total of nine years and 43 days in the Department of Corrections.

He has no chance at probation and no chance for community service. Monday’s sentencing was a result of the new escape charges added onto the two previous charges of stalking, prosecutors said.

Konrath was arrested last summer and charged with attempted murder after allegedly plotting to kill his ex-wife. The attempted murder charge was later dropped as part of his plea deal.

Konrath was sentenced to one year in prison for two counts of stalking. While placed on house arrest as part of that sentence, he cut off his bracelet and fled.

Police found him near Flagstaff, Arizona two days later.
