INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A driver led officers on an early morning police chase after fleeing from a traffic stop Monday, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officials said.

It started near the IUPUI campus after an officer tried to pull the driver over. The driver then took off, leading officers on the chase.

At one point during the pursuit there was a crash involving an IMPD K-9 officer, in the 5900 block of Crawfordsville Road. No one was injured.

Around 4:30 a.m., officers took the driver into custody at Meridian and 49th streets. Police had Meridian St. blocked in both directions immediately after the chase but reopened southbound lanes about 30 minutes later. Officers hoped to have northbound lanes back open as soon as the suspect vehicle was towed away.
