Human case of West Nile reported in Marion County

MARION COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) — The first 2015 human case of West Nile virus in Marion County has been reported.

The Marion County Public Health Department said one case was also reported in 2014.

The last death in Marion County due to West Nile was in 2012.

MCPDH said mosquitoes carrying the virus have been found in every township in Marion County.

The department recommended the following precautions:

  • Staying inside as much as possible after dusk when mosquitoes are most active
  • Wearing long pants and long sleeves if outside after dusk
  • Using a mosquito repellant containing the ingredient DEET
  • Look for and empty any container capable of holding water
