Police fatally shoot suspect in French Lick

FRENCH LICK, Ind. (AP) – Indiana State Police say officers in southern Indiana have fatally shot a man who approached them with a metal pipe and disregarded orders to drop the weapon.

Sgt. Philip Hensley says the shooting occurred about 4 p.m. Friday after a state trooper and a West Baden police officer responded to a report of a man strangling his wife in French Lick.

Hensley says the man fled to a garage and grabbed the pipe, then approached the officers.

After a stun gun failed to stop the man, and he pulled back the pipe as if to strike one of the officers, they shot him.

The names of the man and the officers weren’t immediately released.

French Lick is about 50 miles northwest of Louisville, Kentucky.
