Lafayette police find suspected meth lab, arrest 3

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Lafayette police made three arrests after discovering an inactive methamphetamine lab inside an apartment Monday morning.

It happened at an apartment in the 300 block of Fifth Street in Lafayette. The surrounding apartments were evacuated for a short time.

Lafayette police tell News 18 they were called to the scene a little after 10:30 a.m., when a maintenance worker noticed a chemical odor coming from an apartment.

Bryan Hewitt, 51, of Lafayette was arrested, as well as 32-year-old Jessica Omand and 43-year-old Wayne Furman, both also of Lafayette.

Hewitt is preliminarily charged with dealing methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine and maintaining a common nuisance.

Furman faces a charge of dealing methamphetamine and Ormand is preliminarily charged with visiting a common nuisance.

The Indiana State Police Methamphetamine Suppression Team assisted the Lafayette Police Department with processing and cleanup of the lab.
