DIY projects for an end-of-summer party

Whether you are throwing a summer party or just wanting to add some seasonal inspired design to your backyard, these easy-to-make DIY projects will help you do just that! You don’t have to spend a lot of money to re-create any or all of these summer projects. Summer Floral Lights

Reuse those outdoor Christmas lights to create this summertime floral decoration. What you will need:

1 – 2 strands of outdoor Christmas lights

1 – 2 summer flower garlands or floral bushes

Pull all of the flowers from the garland or floral bushes and place a flower onto each light of the Christmas light string. Hang outside and enjoy.Napkin Rings

All you need for this beautiful addition to your table setting is:

Fabric Napkins

Scrapbook paper

Silk flowers

Hot glue gun and glue sticks

Glue dots

Roll your napkin into a design that you like. Cut the scrapbook paper into 2″ strips and wrap one of the strips around the napkin sealing the ring with the glue gun or a glue dot. Cut the stems off of your flowers and glue one flower to each paper napkin ring with the glue gun.Clay Pot Serving Dishes

Flower pots and saucers can be used for more than planting flowers. They are an in-expensive way of decorating your summertime table setting. You can even make a decorative cake stand using one clay pot and one clay saucer, top it off with a cake from Nothing Bundt Cakes. The items you will need for this project are:

Clay pots (different sizes)

Clay saucers (different sizes)

Americana Patio Paint or Acrylic Paint (your choice of colors)

Sponge brushes

Summer colored ribbon

Hot glue gun and glue sticks

Paint each clay pot and saucer with 2 – 3 coats of Americana patio or acrylic paint in a different summertime colors, let dry for 20 minutes between coats and for 1 hour after the last coat. Decorate the outside of each clay pot and saucer with summertime ribbon by hot gluing it to the rim of each pot and saucer. Create a cake stand by turning the clay pot upside down and gluing the bottom of the saucer to it. Finish it off with a yummy cake from Nothing Bundt Cakes.Decorated Straws

Why have boring plain straws in your drinks when you can have easy to make decorated straws. You can create butterflies and flowers using these easy steps. Protect your drink by placing a paper muffin cup upside down and put the straw through it. The items you will need for this project are:

Silk Flowers

Glue dots

Scissors

Computer and printer (optional)

Colorful straws, either plastic or recyclable

Wilton Paper muffin Cups

You can print butterfly and flower patterns from your computer and trace them onto the scrapbook paper, or you can freehand your designs. Cut the designs out and glue them to the side of the straws at the top using the glue dots. Bend the wings or peddles for an added look.Ice Cream Cone Cupcakes

Sprinkles or cherries for the top of the cupcakes

Place the baking rack on a cookie sheet. Next, place the ice cream cones in the rack and fill the cones about ¾ the way full. Bake the cupcakes at the temperature on the box and for the time they say for cupcakes, though it may take a little long, be sure to test the cupcake with a toothpick. Let them cool for a couple of hours and then frost them with the icing using the star tip that is provided. Sprinkle tasty treats on top and enjoy.
