Man charged for attacking deputy, 2 inmates

TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) – A Lafayette homeless man faces charges for an attack on a corrections officer at the Tippecanoe County Jail last week.

According to court documents, 21-year old Dominic Gaeta attacked Dep. Travis Merkel at the jail on Sept 2.

Prosecutors say Gaeta punched the deputy in the head, fracturing his upper jaw. He then attacked two other inmates.

They add that Gaeta told authorities that he couldn’t cope with being isolated.

Gaeta is charged with battery on a law enforcement officer and three counts of battery.
