Police: Man, 18, arrested after boy, 16, shot in Richmond

RICHMOND, Ind. (AP) – Police say an 18-year-old man has been arrested after a 16-year-old boy was shot in the neck in east-central Indiana.

Richmond Police Department Sgt. Mike Britt says the 18-year-old was arrested late Sunday night on a charge of felony criminal recklessness. Britt says the suspect told investigators that he was handling a weapon that he didn’t realize was a real firearm and was surprised when it fired, hitting the 16-year-old.

The (Richmond) Palladium-Item reports the 16-year-old was flown to a hospital in Dayton, Ohio. Britt said investigators were awaiting an update on his condition.
