Boy in wheelchair scores touchdown for his team

WESTFORD, Mass. (CNN) – The story of a football player in New England may even get Colts fans to cheer.

On Sunday, in the first play of a youth league season opener, Matthew Davidopoulos scored his first touchdown.

Matthew has spinal muscular atrophy. His teammates, his quarterback brother and coaches from both teams all worked out the details to make the touchdown possible.

“I almost wanted to cry when he was in there,” his coach said. “It’s awesome. The kid has such a big heart. He has such a good attitude.”

Doctors say Matthew is beating the odds off the field, too. Most children with diagnosis don’t live past 2.
