INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Five mayors of Indianapolis got together in one room to talk about progress Tuesday night.

Fifty years of progress was the theme of the event celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee, or GIPC.

WISH-TV’s Jim Shella moderated the event which featured the Richard Lugar, Bill Hudnut III, Stephen Goldsmith, Bart Peterson, and current mayor Greg Ballard.

“The way in which the city has progressed is a testimony to the fact that we have had a succession of fine people in the mayor’s office who have made strong commitments to the city and helped it along,” said Hudnut.

GIPC in a private, non-profit, non-partisan organization.

Founded by late former mayor John Barton, some of GIPC’s efforts have included the development of Eagle Creek Park, the desegregation of local schools, the creation of the Hoosier Legacy Awards and Plan 2020.
