ANDERSON, Ind. (WISH) — The Anderson Police Department is asking for the public’s help to recover items stolen from a police vehicle, including an AR-15 rifle and ammunition.

Officers reportedly served a warrant at a home Thursday around 8:30 a.m. near the 2100 block of Fairview Street. They returned to their vehicles and found items had been stolen.

Police say one vehicle had been entered but nothing was stolen. The other vehicle, an undercover SUV, was missing a Colt AR-15 rifle, ammunition, tactical body armor, a holster, a gas mask, a rifle case and a first aid kit.

Also stolen from the SUV were several person items belonging to one of the officers.

Police say the SUV was inadvertently left unlocked as officers were focused on executing the search warrant.

“It is incredibly frustrating for us as a police agency,” Anderson police spokesman Sgt. Chad Boynton said. “We fully expect the public to hold us to a higher standard. And the security of our equipment, particularly our firearms, is of the utmost importance.”

Witnesses told police that a black male was seen removing items from the police vehicles. The suspect’s vehicle reportedly circled the block while a third person served as a lookout. The lookout, later identified as Leseka Gosha, 36, of Anderson, was heard talking about stealing the items, witnesses told police.

Gosha was standing next to the undercover SUV when officers returned to their vehicles. She was arrested and preliminarily charged with aiding, inducing or causing theft of a firearm, a level six felony.

The driver of the suspects’ vehicle, Wade-Allen Wade, 27, of Anderson, was also arrested. He has been preliminarily charged with theft, a level six felony; and possession of a firearm by a serious violent offender, a level four felony.

Many of the stolen items were later recovered behind Divine Stylez and Cuts.

Police say the Colt AR-15 rifle, ammunition and Kevlar helmet are still missing.

The black male seen by witnesses taking items is described as in his 20’s with a slender to medium build, a low cut hairstyle and a medium complexion. He was wearing a black T-shirt and red baggy shorts, according to witnesses.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Anderson Police Department at (765) 648-6700.

Gosha is the sister of a suspect arrested while police served the warrant on the home. Leeza Sanders, 26, of Anderson, and Johnnie Gosha, 33, of Anderson, were arrested after officers found marijuana, 40 grams of cocaine and 15 grams of heroine inside the home.
