It’s a test of skill this weekend for 15 professional IndyCar drivers! The Dan Wheldon Memorial Pro-Am Karting Challenge kicks off this weekend, honoring Justin Wilson and supporting the Dan Wheldon Foundation. The event, in its 3rd year, has become a popular off-season event with the stars and partners of IndyCar, and driver James Hinchcliffe rolled in our studios this morning to tell us more!

2) Event times—-FREE to the Public—but donations are accepted to support the Dan Wheldon Foundation
*Donations are accepted 2 ways—1) monetary 2) purchase merchandise that will be on-sale onsite
*Merchandise includes a limited edition item—this year, it is a scarf! You can also purchase hats, t-shirts, pins with the proceeds going to the foundation.
1st Practice Session: 10 a.m.
All Driver Autograph Session: 11:30 – 12:15 p.m.
Pro-Am Race: 12:45 – 2:30 p.m.
*Sponsors purchased a team for $9,800 to commemorate Dan’s #98 car and New Castle Motorsports Park prepares the Karts
*3 amateur drivers paired with 1 professional driver
*They run practice sessions then race with a victory podium and bragging rights. The pro drivers all run the last stint of the race.
*Defending Champion is the Big Machine Records Team with IndyCar Driver Tony Kanaan
4) Where does the money raised go?
*Over the last 2 years, the events has raised $229,000
*Portions go to Alzheimers’ Association in honor of Dan’s Mom
*This year the funds raised will also support the family of Justin Wilson—His wife Julia, and two daughters.
