NOBLESVILLE, Ind. (WISH) — A big event in Noblesville Thursday served to permanently commemorate a fallen Hoosier hero.

The Indianapolis chapter of the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation hosted a golf tournament in honor of Captain Brandon Barrett.

Captain Barrett, of Marion, died in Afghanistan at the age of 27.

Proceeds will establish a scholarship in Barrett’s name. It’s a way for his memory to impact the lives of Marine families for countless years to come.

“The key goal for us is to net over $100,000 annually at our event,” explained Tyler Mensch, with the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation. “With that figure, we can establish an endowed scholarship, which means that no more money has to go into it and it’ll last forever.”

The MCSF hosts the outing annually, creating a new scholarship in honor of a fallen Marine each year.
