Radio Personality hosts Cancer Sucks fundraiser

There isn’t a more real or raw way to put it: Cancer Sucks! Radio personality KJ, from the Morning Mix on 107.9,knows first-hand just how bad it sucks. In 2008, KJ lost both of her parents to Lymphoma within nine months of each other. Since then, she’s hosted the annual Cancer Sucks Party to raise money to help fight the disease.

KJ says it’s a party for everyone. It seems we all know someone battling this terrible disease, and this party is just a small way to give back.

I think part of what appeals to people is it’s fun. There’s enough bad stuff about cancer. We have family members who come every year, it’s a thing that they do to celebrate making it through chemo and surviving the battle.”

IIn addition to great food, drink specials, dancing and lively entertainment by Indy favorite Living Proof, there will be a silent auction with items donated from some of Indy’s premiere businesses. The Cancer Sucks Party is Friday, September 25 at 7 p.m. at the District Tap, 3720, E. 82nd St. Proceeds benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. There is no admission fee. Guests are asked to make a small monetary donation at the door. The event is presented by Kaplan University, and supported in part by the Financial Center. To get a look at all of this year’s auction items – www.kjcancer15.auction-bid.org between now and the day of the party to register a bid.

To date, the KJ’s Cancer Sucks Party has raised over $75,000 for cancer research and generated awareness for those who struggle with and/or care for those with the disease. For more information about KJ’s Eighth-Annual Cancer Sucks Party, visit www.indysmix.com.
