Second Chance Heart Club gathers for reunion

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — They were given a second chance at life and Saturday dozens of Hoosiers with mechanical hearts came together.

They call themselves the Second Chance Heart Club, and Saturday was their 10th reunion.

Indiana folks who survived heart failure thanks to mechanical heart implants met up to talk about their stories and also thanks the medical staff who saved their lives.

“I had long term hear problems, like, over 30 years,” explained Ty Hackett, who attended the event. “And it just wore out, so the heart pump completely changed me.”

IU Health Methodist Hospital is home to one of the largest mechanical heart implant and heart transplant programs in Indiana.
