Indy pastor camping out to combat violence not deterred by shootings

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — An Indianapolis pastor is camping out to raise awareness about violence in the city, and he’s not deterred by the recent string of shootings.

Pastor John Girton placed three new white crosses outside his temporary home Sunday.

Girton started camping at the corner of 30th Streek and MLK Street several weeks ago.

He says the rash of shootings Friday and Saturday will not distract him from his mission.

“The Bible tells us that we’ll have days like this, where they’ll be tragedy,” Girton said Sunday. “And in our community, even with the prayers that are going up, a lot of people are going to try to quantify the prayers with immediate result. What we’re looking for is hope.”

Anyone with information about the recent shootings is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 262-TIPS.
