Loaded handgun found in student’s backpack at Lafayette school

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WISH) – A loaded hand gun was located at a Lafayette school on Monday morning, according to school officials.

The Lafayette School Corporation administration and LSC school security were notified of a student that might have a gun at Lafayette Jefferson High School.

The student was identified and school officials searched the student’s belongings.

During the search a handgun with ammunition was found inside the backpack. The 15-year-old student was taken to the Lafayette Police Department. The student was later arrested on preliminary charges of possession of a handgun and possession of stolen property.

No one was injured during the incident.
