Men threaten local crime fighter

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Reverend Charles Harrison didn’t appear discouraged.

Just three days ago, the popular crime fighter faced a crowd that appeared frustrated by his presence at a murder scene.

“The young men in the crowd were very agitated,” said Harrison.

Last Friday night, police were called to the scene of West 38th Street and Bennett Drive after someone shot and killed 19-year-old Gregory Paffumi. Harrison and his group Ten Point Coalition often report to the scene of a crime. Once there, the group helps comfort victims of crime, or the victim’s family members.

This time, Harrison faced strong opposition to his presence.

“The young men, they verbally attacked Ten Point,” said Harrison.

At one point, the men told Harrison to shut up and to leave the scene. Harrison and the Ten Point workers got in their vehicles and started to drive away from the scene. As they drove away, shots could be heard being fired into the air.

“No one has ever threatened us like this or gotten in our face in the manner like these young men did,” said Harrison.

A day after the threats, Harrison and Ten Point returned to the scene. Harrison wanted the men who uttered the threats to know he is not frightened or discouraged.

“This will not stop us, we will not be deterred by this,” said Harrison.

Police still need information in the shooting of Paffumi.

Investigators urge anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-TIPS (8477). Callers may also text “INDYCS” plus tip information to 274637 (CRIMES). All information shared via Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana is considered anonymous.
