Rep. Messer seeking new leadership post

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Indiana Congressman Luke Messer (R, 6th District) is looking to move up in the GOP leadership team in the House of Representatives.

Messer currently serves as chairman of the Republican Policy Committee, the number five leadership post.

He is laying the groundwork to run for the number four post, Conference Chairman, if an opening develops.

The pending departure of Speaker John Boehner could lead to a vacancy.

Conference Chairman is a post once held by Mike Pence, the man Messer replaced in the sixth District seat.

The Republican conference will meet on Tuesday to plan a leadership election.
