Shoplifting suspect in police custody died of natural causes

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The shoplifting suspect who died in police custody on Saturday died of natural causes, according to the Marion County Coroners Office.

The coroners office said 18-year-old Terrell Day died from an acute myocardial infraction.

Day was arrested after a shoplifting incident at the Burlington Coat Factory story in Washington Square Mall.

According to IMPD, Day told police he was having trouble breathing. An ambulance was called, but the EMS crew determined he could be transported by police.

When the jail wagon arrived to transport Day, he again complained of difficulty breathing. A second ambulance was called, but his condition quickly deteriorated, according to IMPD.
