Family says latest homicide victim had no enemies

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Family members identified one of the latest murder victims in Indianapolis as Dennis Vaughn, 36.

Vaughn was shot and killed on the west side of Indianapolis late Wednesday morning in the 1900 block North Centennial Street around 11:20 a.m. This is just east of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway., Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officials said.

According to police, Vaughn opened the side door of his home and could be heard talking to someone according to relatives in the house.

Shots were fired and Vaughn was found dead inside his home. Family members and friends soon gathered outside the home, as detectives processed the house for evidence.

“He took care of his mother,” said Vaughn’s fiancée Quinica Darden. “He took care of us all.”

Vaughn, a father of three, loved spending time with his three daughters.  Neighbors in the community add that he was a good neighbor and easy to get along with.

“People need to pray more,” said Darden. “People really need to call on Jesus, this world is spiraling into hell.”

In an interview, Darden was adamant that Vaughn had no enemies.  Police don’t believe this is an random case and investigators say Vaughn was targeted.
