BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) — Police are searching for a missing Indiana University Bloomington student.

Family members say Joseph Smedley, a junior biochemistry student, went missing around 3 p.m. Monday.

Smedley’s sister, Vivianne Brown, told 24-Hour News 8 that he texted her to say he was leaving the country. She says she thought he was joking.

School officials said Smedley had missed class.

A tweet by IU Bloomington states Smedley is 20 years old, 5-foot 7-inches tall, weighs 145 pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes.

Police said he lives off campus.

Anyone with information on Smedley’s location is asked to call IU police at 812-855-4111.
