GREENFIELD, Ind. (WISH) — An Indianapolis woman was placed on life-support Tuesday after a serious crash in Greenfield.

It happened just after 3:30 p.m. Police say 33-year-old Marcial Umana Tena was driving a white van east on U.S. 40 when he swerved to avoid a car attempting to turn left onto Windswept Road.

Thirty-six-year-old Tasha Hanshew was westbound on U.S. 40 in a white sedan when Umana Tena crossed the center line, colliding with Hanshew’s vehicle, 24-Hour News 8’s news partners at The Greenfield Daily Reporter report.

Both Hanshew and Umana Tena needed to be extricated from their vehicles. Hanshew was transported to IU Health Methodist Hospital with life-threatening injuries, police say. Umana Tena was also hospitalized after suffering injuries to his lower body and possible broken bones.

According to police, he is legally a resident of El Salvador and police are investigating whether he had a valid Indiana driver’s license.

The crash is under investigation.
