Muncie man convicted of trying to kill police officer

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) – A 34-year-old man has been found guilty of trying to kill a Muncie police officer in a 2013 attack.

The (Muncie) Star Press reports Bryan William Modglin was convicted of attempted murder Thursday in the attack on Officer Shane Finnegan. He was also found guilty of battery resulting in serious bodily injury for severely beating reserve officer Richard Little.

Modglin was accused of beating Little before Finnegan arrived at the scene of the attack outside a Muncie home. Authorities say Modglin choked Finnegan, who shot Modglin twice in the chest. The officers were responding to a reported fracas at a nearby tavern.

Modglin and his attorney acknowledged he attacked Little and fought with Finnegan, but denied Modglin choked Finnegan or intended to kill him.

A sentencing hearing is scheduled for Oct. 28.
