Friends, family gather to remember murder victim

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Friends and family of a west side murder victim are asking that people watch for the warning signs of domestic violence.

The five children and five grandchildren of 41-year-old Janet Cook gathered Thursday evening to light candles and release balloons in her honor.

Cook was found dead last week on the front porch of a home on North Exeter Avenue.

Her boyfriend, 29-year-old Anthony Buehner, was charged with her murder.

Cook’s oldest daughter Jessica says her mother and Buehner argued before the shooting took place.

Now she hopes her mother’s story will encourage others to get help.

“I just want to stop the domestic abuse, domestic violence,” she said. “If you’re going through anything, just reach out. Let somebody know, don’t hold it in, don’t try to hide it.”

Cook’s family says the turnout at tonight’s vigil shows just how much their mother was loved.
