LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) — Football teams at a middle school in Lafayette have returned to their home turf for the first time since a tornado hit nearly two years ago.
The seventh and eighth grade football teams at Southwestern Middle School had exclusively been on the road after the tornado damaged the school in November 2013. WLFI-TV reports that both Wildcat teams played their first home game Thursday night on their new football field.
The seventh grade team won 22-6 and the eighth grade team lost 36-0. But their return to home field advantage still felt like a victory.
Both teams will play another game at home next week.
