Lafayette man sentenced to 45 years for shooting

TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) – A Lafayette man has been sentenced to 45 years in the Department of Corrections for shooting a man earlier this year.

Twenty-five-year-old Sidney Greenleaf was sentenced Friday morning in Tippecanoe County. He pleaded guilty in August to attempted murder and unlawful use of a firearm.

Greenleaf was accused of shooting a man on Feb. 2 at the Marathon Quick Pantry at the intersection of Ninth and Ferry streets.

Police said the victim, Aarron Vance, was shot multiple times and that the entire incident was caught on surveillance camera.

According to the prosecutor’s office, Greenleaf fled to Chicago after the shooting and admitted that he asked someone to hide the gun.

In court Friday, Greenleaf apologized for his actions.

As part of his guilty plea, five other counts were dismissed.
