Man sentenced for stealing ambulance, resisting arrest

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — An Indianapolis man has been sentenced after he stole an ambulance and tried to kick and bite officers who tried arrest him.

46-year-old Kenneth Pope was sentenced to almost two and a half years in the Indiana Department of Correction. He received credit for the almost four months he has already spent in jail.

Pope was arrested and charged after stealing an ambulance on June 13.

According to court documents, Pope was a robbery suspect and was acting erratic.

Medical personnel tried to evaluate him and Pope stole the ambulance when the driver left the driver’s seat.

Police pursued Pope from West Michigan Street and Belmont Avenue to an area North Lynhurst Drive in a Waffle House parking lot.

Pope pleaded guilty to auto theft and resisting law enforcement. Both charges are felony.
