CARROLL COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) — Charges were handed down Friday against a Carroll County man following a vicious dog attack on two women.

Fifty-year-old Richard Darter was charged with eight counts of dog bite liability resulting in serious bodily injury, which is a Class A misdemeanor.

The attack occurred on Oct. 1, when 20-year-old Rebekah Forgey, of Kokomo, and 19-year-old Isabella George, of Carroll County, were attacked by four pit bulls while walking down County Road 225 East near Cutler.

Carroll County Sheriff Tobe Leazenby says Darter, the owner of the dogs, unsuccessfully tried to intervene and was injured in the process. A good Samaritan got the women and Darter into her car and called 911.

Forgey suffered serious injuries in the attack. George and Darter were taken to IU Health Arnett in Lafayette for treatment and were later released.

The four dogs were put down.

Darter has not been arrested. He could face up to eight years in prison, if found guilty on all charges.
