Columbus police searching for possible police impersonator

COLUMBUS, Ind. (WISH) – Police in Columbus are searching for a man they believe impersonated a police officer on Monday.

According to a victim’s statement, she was stopped by a man driving a black Dodge Charger with red and blue lights on Interstate 65 in Walesboro. The victim said the man was around six feet tall, weighed 220 pounds and had short brown hair. The man was also wearing a uniform but didn’t have a radio.

The victim stopped because she thought it was a real officer.

Sgt. Matt Harris with the Columbus Police Department said if you ever have any doubt about the legitimacy of an officer you should call 911 and ask for a supervisor.
