Suspected gas station shooter to appear in court

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The man accused of shooting a gas station clerk will be in court Wednesday afternoon.

Police say 26-year-old Terrance Harris shot the clerk at point blank range Tuesday at the Speedway Gas station near 71st and Keystone.

Harris is scheduled for a hearing at 1 p.m. Wednesday. He was being held in the Marion County Jail on robbery and attempted murder charges. Wednesday morning, IMPD told 24-Hour News 8 the clerk was still in critical condition. IMPD has not yet released the victim’s name.

Police released surveillance photos from the gas station. IMPD said Harris’ family recognized him and turned him into police. Officers say Harris went into the Speedway gas station around 1:15 Tuesday morning and asked the clerk about nachos. Witnessses say he was incoherent and left the store, but then he came back and shot the clerk in the face and stomach.

24-Hour News 8 was there when police arrested Harris. His grandmother, Lucille Harris, said he was at her house when she went to bed, but he must have left at some point in the night. She told us she didn’t believe the accusations at first, but the man in the surveillance video looks to be her grandson.

This story will be updated after the 1 p.m. hearing.
