Pet Pals TV: Adopt a Shelter Dog Month

It’s Adopt-a-Shelter-Dog Month, and Pet Pals TV’s Patty Spitler is helping call attention to the many pets in need of a second chance. She sits down with “Pit Bulls & Parolees” star, Tia Torres, live on location from the Villalobos Rescue Center in New Orleans, the largest Pit Bull rescue center in the U.S.

No one is more of a believer in second chances than Tia Torres. For more than 20 years, she has dedicated her life to the rescue center and has been the leading voice of this misunderstood breed. Tia has offered a fresh start to more than 50 parolees and a new lease on life to dogs that were discarded, demonized and abused, often due solely to the reputation of their breed. After relocating to New Orleans from California in 2012, Villalobos is at maximum capacity. Tia must now open satellite locations in rural Louisiana. Now more than ever, she must rely on her children, their significant others and the parolees to follow in her footsteps and keep the ever-expanding rescue running effectively in multiple locations.

Pit Bulls & Parolees is set to celebrate its 100th episode on Animal Planet this season. The ASPCA, Animal Planet, and Tia Torres are teaming up to showcase how amazing shelter dogs are during Adopt-a-Shelter-Dog Month. Proud pet parents can submit photos of their rescued pooch for a chance for their photo to appear on Pit Bulls & Parolees during the October 17th episode.

Visit www.ASPCA.org/MyRescueDog to submit your photo. National Pit Bull Awareness Day is Saturday, October 24.
