Fishers, IAA hope to develop 96th Street corridor

FISHERS, Ind. (WISH) – A new initiative between Fishers and the Indianapolis Airport Authority (IAA) could bring new jobs and business to Fishers.

On Friday, Fishers and IAA approved a partnership to make the unused land at the Fishers Metropolitan Airport available for economic growth.

The IAA passed the Land Use Initiative in November that would allow IAA to lease or sell land on and around airports. Fishers and IAA have agreed to “bring life” to the 96th Street area for ecomomic growth.

Steve Dillinger, IAA Board Member and Hamilton County Commissioner said the goal if that it will help for years to come.

“The City has been working hard to keep the 96th Street corridor vibrant for the benefit of our entire community,” said Mayor Scott Fadness.

They plan to work together to develop a master plan for the 200 to 300 acres of land.

The Fishers City Council will consider the plan on Oct. 19 at the council meeting. If approved, Fishers and the IAA will begin working on the master plan for the area.

A proposal for the development could be released in the spring of 2016.
