INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The man accused of causing deadly injuries to a 2-year-old has been formally charged with murder, according to court records.

According to the court documents, DiQuan Williams hit the 2-year-old child and did not seek medical attention when he knocked the child unconscious on Oct. 14. The child was then put in their room, which was covered in feces and smelled of urine.

Police say the incident was reported several hours after the child was hit by Williams. The documents say that Williams hit the child sometime during lunch. It was not until the mother called the child for dinner that she noticed the child lying on the floor.

The documents say that the mother wanted to call police but Williams told her not to because the child had bruises on him. The child was finally taken to Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital at 9 p.m. before being transported to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health due to the severity of injuries, according to the documents.

Police interviewed Williams and asked him about the injuries, at first he denied harming the child until officers told him the child was not expected to survive. Williams then told police that he sometimes gets “angry and explodes.”

Williams then showed police how he injured the child. Police say Williams told them that he punched the child in the chest and stomach. He then punched the child two more times causing the child to fall and hit his head on the base of the wall. Williams then put the child in the room and left him unattended.

Williams told police that he placed the child in his room covered in feces for as many as 22 hours.

Police say the child died on Saturday evening.

Williams is facing charges of murder, neglect of a dependent resulting in death, battery resulting in death to a person less than 14 years of age and neglect of a dependent.

His next court date is scheduled for Dec. 16 at 9 a.m.
