Delphi man taken into custody after police standoff

DELPHI, Ind. (WLFI) – One Delphi man was taken into custody Tuesday morning after police say he barricaded himself inside a house with a crossbow.

It was a situation that called for the aid of the Tippecanoe County SWAT Team and the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.

Just after 11 p.m. Monday, police say a 46-year-old man dialed 911 and threatened to harm himself when police arrived.

Police found the man inside a house in the 200 block of Davis Lane.

Indiana Conservation Officer Lt. Dan Dulin assisted with the call, and said the standoff lasted for about two hours.

Dulin said the man surrendered himself after being talked down by Delphi Police Chief Steve Mullin.

A woman and a child were also inside the home.

No one was hurt during the standoff. The man was taken into custody for psychological evaluation and treatment. Police say he may face charges of intimidation and neglect of a dependent upon his release from treatment.
