1 dead, 1 injured in Fort Wayne shooting

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) The Fort Wayne Police Department was investigating a double shooting where one man was killed and another was transported to the hospital in serious condition.

FWPD spokesperson Michael Joyner said investigators believe two men were shot in the 5100 block of Plaza Drive. One of the victims ran a few houses down to the 5200 block of Plaza Drive. to get help.

Joyner said around 11:40 a.m., officers first responded to the home in the 5200 block where they found one of the shooting victims outside.

Then officers went to the home in the 5100 block, where its believed the shooting happened. They found a man who had been shot inside the house without a pulse. Joyner said he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Joyner said witnesses saw two cars drive away, but there’s not enough information for a description at this time.

It’s not clear how many people were involved or what motive prompted the shooting.

The identity of the victim will be released by the Allen County Coroner’s Office along with the cause and manner of death.

Paul Harding Junior High School and East Allen University was placed under a special restriction following the shooting.
