Child airlifted to Indy after ATV crash in Attica

ATTICA, Ind. (WLFI) – An 11 year-old girl is recovering after an ATV crash in Fountain County Sunday morning.

Attica firefighters say the girl was riding with a group in the Badlands Off Road Vehicle Park when she drove her ATV too far off the path.

The vehicle rolled and landed on top of her legs.

Emergency crews used a rope rescue to get the girl to a helicopter, and she was airlifted to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health in Indianapolis.

Attica Fire Chief Ed O’Farrell said his department is trained to handle these type of calls.

“We train at least six or seven times a year for rope rescue, specifically so that we are ready to do that,” said O’Farrell. “We just hope that everybody pays attention to what they are doing. We want them to be careful.”

O’Farrell said the girl was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
