Historic Lafayette home set for demolition

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – A historic house in Lafayette is set to be demolished.

A neighboring church bought the home at 1521 Grove St. about one year ago to turn the property into a parking lot, and Tuesday morning the Lafayette Board of Works and Public Safety approved the church’s request.

Economic Development officer Daniel Walker said the house has been empty for quite some time and is in disrepair.

“Right now, there are windows busted out and boards on the doors and other windows,” Walker said. “The home is not in great condition. It’ll probably be bond to the neighborhood to be taken care of.”

The Board also waived the 60-day waiting period allowing the church to go ahead with the project.
